Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Nurse
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room nurse to join the cardiothoracic surgical team. This is a 13-week contract role working day shifts.
Shift & Schedule
- 4 x 10-hour days per week
- 06:30–17:00
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Minimum 1+ year of CVOR experience
- CNOR certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of cardiac/thoracic surgical procedures, instrumentation, and cardiopulmonary bypass
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide circulating and/or scrub nursing support during cardiovascular and thoracic procedures (CABG, valve repairs/replacements, aortic repairs, and similar cases)
- Maintain sterile field and manage specialized cardiac instruments and equipment
- Coordinate with perfusion team on cardiopulmonary bypass setup and management
- Monitor patient hemodynamics throughout complex, high-acuity procedures
- Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts
- Administer medications and manage emergency supplies
- Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesia, and perfusion staff
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and post-op handoff to CVICU
- Document procedural details and patient data per regulatory standards
