Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse

Location: Elizabethtown, KY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 3 days per week (12-hour shifts)

Schedule: Weekend and holiday rotation

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: September 28, 2026

About the Role

You'll provide nursing care to patients requiring closer monitoring than a standard med-surg unit but who are not ICU-level. This is an ideal role if you thrive in step-down settings where clinical judgment, vigilance, and collaborative care are central to patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Assess, monitor, and manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) based on acuity and staffing guidelines
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team on the plan of care
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment plan, and recovery process
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient response accurately
• Ensure infection control and fall prevention protocols are followed

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license (or compact license as applicable)
• ADN or ASN (BSN preferred)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• 1+ years of PCU/step-down experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management

Preferred

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
