Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Cardiac Focus | Atlanta, GA

Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | 3×12s, 36 hrs/week | 13-Week Contract

This high-acuity PCU assignment is ideal for travelers with a strong cardiac background. The unit manages a complex patient population with significant procedural volume and frequent admissions and discharges. Start dates are available every Monday; scrubs are navy blue.

Patient Population

Heart failure, A-fib, atrial flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, STEMI/NSTEMI, hypertension, chest pain, cardiogenic shock, congenital heart disease, heart transplant recipients, and LVAD patients.

Common Procedures

  • Right and left heart catheterizations
  • TR band management and sheath/groin site management
  • Stent placement and valve replacement
  • Pacemaker, ICD, and cardioversion management
  • Ablations
  • Chest tube management

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac PCU experience
  • Independent telemetry interpretation; must pass a proctored dysrhythmia exam (paper-based, caliper-required, first attempt only — no remediation)
  • Proficiency with cardiac drips: insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and nitroglycerin
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available)
  • No ventilator patient experience required

Float & Scheduling

Travelers may float to similar cardiac/PCU units. Floating into cardiac monitor tech roles is not applicable to travel staff.

Requirements

  • Valid Georgia or compact RN license
  • 50-mile radius rule applies — no local travelers
