PCU / Stepdown
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Cardiac-Focused | Night Shift | Atlanta, GA
This high-acuity, cardiac-focused PCU position is ideal for experienced nurses with a strong cardiac background. The unit manages complex cardiac patients with significant procedural volume and frequent admissions and discharges.
Assignment Details
- Shift: Nights, 3 × 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 36 hours/week
- Contract: 13 weeks | Start: October 19, 2026 (new cohorts begin every Monday)
- Scrubs: Navy blue
- 50-mile radius restriction — local travelers are not eligible
Patient Population
Heart failure, A-fib, A-flutter, SVT, VTach/VFib, STEMI/NSTEMI, hypertension, chest pain, fluid volume overload, congenital heart disease, LVAD patients, and post-heart transplant patients.
Common Procedures
Right and left heart catheterizations, sheath removal and management, TR band management, stent placement, valve replacement, cardioversions, ablations, pacemaker and ICD management, groin site care, and chest tube management. No ventilator patients.
Required Experience & Competencies
- Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience
- Independent telemetry interpretation; must pass a proctored, paper-based dysrhythmia exam using calipers — first attempt only, no remediation
- Proficiency with cardiac drips: insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and nitroglycerin
- Chest tube experience required
- LVAD and heart transplant experience preferred (training available)
- ACLS certification required
- Georgia RN license or compact license required
Float Expectations
May float to similar cardiac/PCU units; will not float into cardiac monitor technician roles.
