RN – Medical-Surgical Telemetry

Location: Lexington, KY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week)

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: October 5, 2026

About the Role

You'll provide comprehensive nursing care on a medical-surgical telemetry unit, managing adult patients with a wide range of medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions. This is a fast-paced environment where clinical assessment, cardiac monitoring, and collaboration are central to daily practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, identifying and responding promptly to changes in patient condition
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments using the nursing process; develop and implement individualized care plans
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders, including cardiac drips as applicable
• Manage pre- and post-operative care for surgical patients, including wound care and pain management
• Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory diagnoses)
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, medications, and discharge instructions
• Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning and discharge coordination
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EMR
• Manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity)
• Support infection control and fall prevention protocols

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license as applicable)
• 1+ years of medical-surgical telemetry nursing experience
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Telemetry/EKG interpretation competency
• ADN or ASN minimum; BSN preferred

Required Skills

• Strong assessment and critical-thinking abilities
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members and patients
• Proficiency with computer systems and EMR applications
• Age-specific patient safety awareness and implementation

Weekend and holiday coverage as needed for the department.
