Pathologists Assistant – Surgical Pathology
Position Overview
The facility is seeking a New York State licensed Pathologists Assistant to cover a four-month assignment in surgical pathology. This is a Monday–Friday day shift with no weekends or on-call requirements.
Schedule & Duration
- Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday
- Contract: 4 months
- Start Date: January 4, 2027
Clinical Scope
You'll work in a busy surgical pathology lab processing an average of 200 tissue blocks daily. Responsibilities include:
- Cutting and staining frozen sections
- Gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens (breast resections, uterine, lung, and colon resections—with a heavy breast service volume)
- Triaging fresh tissue for lymphoma workups
- Identifying glomeruli in medical renal biopsies
- Macroscopic description of anatomic features
- Preparing tissues for histological processing
- Obtaining biological samples for flow cytometry
- Reviewing patient clinical information from scans, X-rays, and lab results
You'll collaborate with 4 pathologists and 6 histotechs.
Required Qualifications
- New York State Pathologists Assistant license (required at submission)
- ASCP-PA certification
- Minimum 2 years experience in hospital clinical laboratory
- Travel experience preferred
Additional Information
- Permanent residence must be more than 50 miles from the facility
- Orientation modules must be completed before your start date
