PCU / Stepdown
Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) — Stepdown | Wheeling, WV
13-Week Contract | Start Date: October 26, 2026
This intermediate care unit manages a diverse cardiac and medical stepdown population, including patients with chest pain, rule-out MI, CHF, arrhythmias, and post-pacer placements. RNs also care for pre- and post-cath patients, including radial band management, groin checks, and patients on Tikosyn therapy.
Shift & Schedule
- 3 × 12-hour rotating day/night shifts (7a–7p / 7p–7a); on unit by 6:45
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Fri/Sat/Sun are all considered weekend shifts; 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
- Straight-day staff must complete a minimum of 3 night shifts per 4-week schedule
- Self-scheduling available when unit needs are met; up to 4 requested days off per month
- Holiday flexibility expected, though permanent staff typically provide coverage
Required Certifications
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Clinical Expectations
- RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Drip titration required: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetalol, Nitroglycerin, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
- Float capability to Telemetry or Med-Surg as needed
Support Structure
- Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage 24/7
- IV team handles all IV starts; PICC/Midline team available
- Respiratory Therapy manages all respiratory equipment 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7
- CNA support on unit
Dress Code: Navy blue scrub top and bottom; navy scrub jacket (no hoodies)
Attendance: Strict policy — two occurrences (including tardies) per contract may result in termination. Notify appropriate channels more than 2 hours before any missed shift.
50-mile radius rule applies. Valid driver's license required at submission.
