Operating Room Nurse

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced OR Nurse to join the surgical team for a 13-week contract assignment in Gardner, MA. You'll work a 40-hour week over four 10-hour day shifts, with on-call requirements of one night per week and weekend coverage as scheduled.

About the Role

In this perioperative nursing position, you will:

• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technicians to ensure optimal patient safety and care during surgical interventions
• Maintain sterile fields, oversee instrument and supply preparation, and apply aseptic technique across all surgical cases
• Verify patient identity, consent forms, operative procedure, and surgical site prior to OR entry
• Perform accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts; notify the surgeon of results
• Identify, label, and handle specimens and cultures per facility protocol
• Assess and manage patient pain levels; document effectiveness of pain management interventions
• Apply principles of body mechanics during patient positioning and transfer
• Provide thorough, accurate documentation of all interventions and patient responses
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team to ensure continuity of care

Requirements

• Current Massachusetts RN license
• AHA ACLS certification required upon hire (or active BLS card with ACLS obtained within 60 days of start)
• OR nursing experience and CNOR certification strongly preferred
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
• Strong communication and multitasking skills
• Professional, collaborative approach to patient care
