Progressive Care RN – Open Heart Unit
Position Overview
The facility is seeking a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN to provide specialized care for post-operative open heart and cardiothoracic surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring and management. This is a night shift position working 7 PM–7 AM.
Shift & Schedule
- Night shift: 4x12-hour or 3x12-hour options
- Every other weekend required
- Weekday-focused with flexibility to float within scope to meet facility needs
- 13-week contract with 36-hour minimum weekly guarantee
- Orientation held every other Thursday
Clinical Scope
- Chest tube insertion assistance, management, and removal
- Central line management
- External/internal pacemaker care
- Wound vac management
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Critical drip administration (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Argatroban)
- Telemetry monitoring
The unit also accepts medical/surgical overflow patients.
Requirements
- Current West Virginia RN license (or compact state license; pending accepted for submission)
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association)
- Two manager or charge nurse references from the past 2 years
- Permanent address within 100 miles of the facility (75–99 miles considered on case-by-case basis)
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID vaccine required (exemptions reviewed individually)
