Medical-Surgical Nurse – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical nurse for a night shift position in a general med-surg unit serving adults and geriatrics. You'll care for a diverse patient population with a census of approximately 43, managing a mix of post-operative recovery, wound care, and respiratory support cases.

Shift & Schedule

• 3 x 12-hour nights: 18:45 – 07:15
• Every other weekend required
• Call as needed
• Must be available to work holidays (required to work 2 of 3 major holidays)
• Up to 7 days of pre-approved time off available (none during first week)

Clinical Scope

This unit handles general medical-surgical patients with typical procedures and care including:

• Heparin drips and IV insulin protocols
• Wound vac dressing changes
• High-flow oxygen and limited short-term BiPap support
• Surgical drain management
• EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license (NC or Compact; pending OK for submission)
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience
• BLS certification required
• CPI preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred for night shift travelers
• EKG testing required prior to start

Floating & Additional Duties

• Float required to similar units and alternate care locations
• May be assigned to a Storm/Hurricane Team and required to respond during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
• Attendance at unit team meetings mandatory (4th Wednesday monthly at 17:30; 3rd Wednesday November–December; additional Friday morning meetings for night shift at 07:30)

• 13-week contract (36, 48, or longer contracts accepted)
• 24 hours of orientation provided
• Navy scrubs
