Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN — Bakersfield, CA | 13-Week Contract

This fast-paced Med-Surg Telemetry unit manages a high-acuity, high-volume patient population including those with acute and chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry needs, stroke diagnoses, post-operative care, COVID, and forensic cases. Set-rate drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin) are used; no titration is required. RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms.

Shift & Scheduling

• 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend (Sat/Sun for days)
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday minimum
• 36 guaranteed hours per week

Clinical Details

• Patient population: Med-Surg and Telemetry
• Respiratory support includes CPAP and BiPAP (no vents)
• CNAs available based on census; House Supervisor on-site 24/7
• Shift huddles at 0700 and 1900; bedside shift report and intentional hourly rounding required

Float Requirements

• Travelers float first; may float to any Med-Surg/Telemetry unit, ICU (for MST patients), or ER (for MST holds), including a satellite campus approximately 6.5 miles away

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Active BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS certification required
• Electronic charting experience preferred

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; no hoodies or sweatshirts

Orientation: 1–2 preceptor shifts

Strict attendance is enforced — punctuality is essential. Evidence-based practice standards are expected of all clinical staff.
