Medical/Surgical Telemetry RN — Night Shift | Bakersfield, CA

Contract: 13 weeks | Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Guaranteed Hours: 36/week | Start Date: October 26, 2026

This fast-paced Med/Surg Telemetry unit manages a diverse, high-acuity patient population including acute and chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry patients, stroke patients, post-operative patients, COVID patients, and forensic patients. RNs administer set-rate drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin) — no titration required — and must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms. CPAP and BiPAP are utilized per RT and physician order; no ventilator management.

Scheduling & Requirements

• Every other weekend (nights: Friday/Saturday)
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; 1 major and 1 minor holiday minimum
• Shift huddles at 0700 and 1900
• No call requirement; low-census standby possible (30-minute response time if called in)

Float Requirements

Travelers float first and may be assigned to other Med/Surg or Med/Surg Telemetry units, the ICU (for MST patients), or the ED (for MST holds) at a nearby campus approximately 6.5 miles away.

Certifications Required

BLS (AHA), ACLS, NIHSS (AHA or APEX)

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 2 years of RN experience in a Med/Surg or Telemetry setting
• Electronic health record experience preferred

Orientation: 1–2 shifts with a preceptor

Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; no hoodies or sweatshirts

The unit emphasizes evidence-based practices including bedside shift report, intentional hourly rounding, and medication education. Strict attendance is expected.
