PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN | Night Shift | Columbia, SC

This progressive care trauma/telemetry unit cares for adult and geriatric patients recovering from traumatic injuries, including gunshot wounds, penetrating injuries, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls — most requiring prior surgical intervention. Patients are hemodynamically stable on arrival to the unit.

Shift & Schedule

• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | 3x12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week guaranteed
• 6 weekend shifts per every 6-week scheduling cycle
• Self-scheduling

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• Float to other qualified units may be required based on census

Required Certifications

• AHA BLS & ACLS
• NIHSS
• Telemetry
• Medication assessment required prior to start

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of PCU/stepdown experience for first-time travelers
• 1 year minimum recent PCU experience considered

Clinical Skills Expected

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Central line, PICC, and port access/management
• Chest tube, tracheostomy, and surgical drain care
• BiPAP/CPAP and high-flow nasal cannula management
• Blood product administration, heparin protocols, PCA management
• Wound care/wound VAC, skin grafts, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury care
• Ortho trauma and craniotomy patient management

Interdisciplinary Support Available

IV team, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, rapid response, social services, radiology, phlebotomy, and interpretation services.

Additional Requirements

• Flu vaccine required; no exemptions
• Pre-assignment modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials (up to 16 billable hours)
• Orientation held every Monday
