Psychiatric Nurse – Night Shift

Position Overview

Join the mental health team at the facility in Kansas City, MO for a 13-week contract. You'll work nights (19:00–07:00) on a rotating schedule across multiple psychiatric units, with 48 guaranteed hours per week.

About the Units

You'll float among five specialized units based on census and acuity needs:

• ADOL: Adolescent patients ages 12–18
• Serenity & VINE: Lower-acuity adult patients
• ITU: Higher-acuity adults with thought disorder diagnoses
• SRAD: Senior patients with specialized behavioral health needs

Key Responsibilities

• Assess mental health status and recognize signs of psychiatric disorders and substance use
• Develop and implement individualized care plans with measurable outcomes
• Administer psychotropic medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques for patients in acute distress
• Use therapeutic communication to build trust and rapport with patients
• Monitor vital signs, mental status changes, and medication effects
• Support the facility's ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Always, Respect)

Requirements

• Current BLS and CPI certifications (required to submit)
• Strong crisis intervention and therapeutic communication skills
• Ability to work flexibly across multiple units
• Comfort with a diverse patient population across age groups and acuity levels

Logistics

• Uniform: Blue scrubs for nurses
• Seven-day-a-week coverage model; weekends included
• Days off not guaranteed unless specified in your contract
