Ortho/Trauma RN — Medical-Surgical | Kansas City, MO

Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3 x 12-hour shifts per week

Contract Duration: 13 weeks | Start Date: November 30

Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week

Unit Overview

This Ortho/Trauma unit manages a diverse orthopedic and trauma patient population, including post-operative knee, hip, and shoulder replacements, acute trauma cases, and neurological overflow. The unit is supported by unit secretaries and patient care technicians.

Clinical Scope & Procedures

• Post-op joint replacement care (knee, hip, shoulder)
• Trauma patient management
• Neuro overflow with NIH stroke scale assessment
• Use of traction, external fixators, and cooling equipment
• Telemetry monitoring

Scheduling & Float

• 3 x 12-hour night shifts per week
• 3 weekend shifts required per schedule period
• Contract staff float first; potential float units include General Med-Surg, Nephrology, and Neuro/Trauma

Patient Experience Standards

• Bedside shift report
• Hourly rounding

Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS certification
• Orthopedic nursing experience (required)
• Telemetry experience (required)
• NIH Stroke Scale familiarity (strongly preferred)
