Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You'll provide nursing care to patients requiring closer monitoring than a standard medical-surgical unit but who are not yet at ICU level. This is a 13-week contract position.

Shift & Schedule

• Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend per unit need
• Start Date: October 25, 2026

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Assess and manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) with appropriate acuity assessment
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team on the plan of care
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and recovery
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EMR
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Mentor and support licensed and non-licensed staff as appropriate

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in state of practice (or compact license as applicable)
• Minimum 1+ year of PCU/step-down experience
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• 2+ years of acute inpatient nursing experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring
