Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse
Position Overview
The facility is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit. You'll provide nursing care to moderate-acuity patients—those requiring closer monitoring than a general med-surg unit but not intensive care. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills in a step-down environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Assess and manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team on plan of care
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and recovery process
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients)
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Minimum 1 year of PCU or step-down experience
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
- Proficiency with cardiac patients
- ADN or BSN; BSN preferred
- PCCN certification preferred
Schedule
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend per unit need
- 13-week contract
- Start date: October 25, 2026
