PCU / Stepdown

Stepdown / PCU Travel RN — La Jolla, CA

Shift: Days, 3x12-hour (07:00–19:30)

Contract: 13 weeks | Start Date: 10/19 or 11/02 (hard start)

This Stepdown/PCU position is based in La Jolla, CA, within a multi-campus health system. Nurses in this role manage a mixed adult and geriatric patient population with moderate-to-high acuity across a range of medical, surgical, neurological, and cardiac diagnoses.

Clinical Scope

The unit manages complex patients including those with CVA, intracranial bleeds, aneurysms, seizure disorders, spinal cord injuries, post-cardiac surgery and post-cath care, renal failure, substance withdrawal, and ortho/trauma presentations. Expected competencies include:

• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips; IV insulin and heparin protocols
• Cardiac telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote); dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Central line, PICC, and peripheral IV management; tracheostomy care
• BiPAP/CPAP and high-flow nasal cannula management
• Pre/post hemodialysis, neurosurgery, and cardiac catheterization care
• Wound care/wound vac, surgical drains, PCA, epidural analgesia, peripheral nerve block catheters

Schedule & Float Requirements

• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week cycle; at least one holiday shift required
• Float required to MS/Tele, observation, or ED hold units across system campuses

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (temp or perm) required at time of submittal
• AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years concurrent Stepdown/PCU experience
• Travel RN experience required
• Electronic health record proficiency required within the last 6 months of work history
• Community hospital experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
• No candidates residing within 100 miles of the facility
