PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Care / Step-Down RN — Night Shift | Maryville, TN

13-Week Travel Contract | Nights 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM | 3x12-Hour Shifts

This step-down/progressive care unit manages adult patients across a diverse range of medical and surgical diagnoses, with moderate-to-high acuity. The unit operates with strong interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services, radiology, and rapid response teams.

Shift & Scheduling

• Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3x12)
• Weekend requirement: One shift every two weeks
• Float requirement: May float to other units based on census needs; competency-verified assignments only
• Orientation: 72 hours (begins Mondays)

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in step-down or progressive care
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• ACLS and BLS required; NIHSS required
• Minimum 1 year of electronic health record experience required
• Flu vaccine required; no exemptions accepted
• COVID-19 vaccine not required

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous charge nurse experience
• Community hospital or LTAC experience

Clinical Scope — Key Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Titration of cardiac, vasoactive, and insulin drips
• Arterial line and central line management
• Ventilated patient care and non-invasive airway management (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC)
• Chemotherapy administration and port access
• Post-cardiac cath, post-TPA, and post-neurosurgery care
• Heparin protocols, blood product administration, PCA management
• Tracheostomy care and wound/wound vac management

Pre-Start Requirements

Online modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials; up to 16 hours of module time is reimbursable.
