Pathology Assistant — Anatomic Pathology Gross Room | Morgantown, WV
This 13-week contract (40 guaranteed hours/week) places a Pathology Assistant in a high-volume anatomic pathology gross room on day shift. Start time varies between 0730 and 0900, with rotation possible across multiple gross room locations within the health system.
Clinical Scope
The department processes an average of 160 cases and approximately 700 blocks per day, with a case mix of roughly 60% small specimens, 20% moderate/biopsy-level, and 20% complex cases. Daily responsibilities include:
- Grossing simple and complex tissue specimens
- Handling and cutting frozen sections (approximately 5–10 per day, shared with residents and other PAs)
- Working alongside a multidisciplinary pathology team in a high-complexity environment
Schedule & Requirements
- 8-hour day shifts; no weekend, holiday, or on-call requirements
- Hospital scrubs are provided
- Orientation/training provided by current staff PAs
Required Qualifications
- ASCP Certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA) — required
- Bachelor's Degree — required
- Minimum 1 year of gross room experience
- BLS (AHA) — required
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Pathologists' Assistant program
- Experience in an academic pathology setting
- Familiarity with Beaker AP and voice recognition software
