PCU / Stepdown

Step-Down / Med-Surg RN — Weekend Days | Morgantown, WV

This flex unit serves both med-surg floor and step-down patients based on census and acuity needs. The unit features a diverse medical patient population and requires nurses who are comfortable managing either assignment level.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Weekend-only positions: Friday–Sunday or Saturday–Monday
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
• Approximately half of recognized holidays required

Contract Details

• 13-week contract
• Cancellation policy: up to 2 shifts per 13-week assignment

Clinical Scope

• Step-down acuity: diverse medical diagnoses; titration of drips including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, and opioid PCAs/TPN
• Respiratory support includes CPAP and BiPAP on both floor and step-down; high-flow oxygen on step-down
• Remote telemetry surveillance with central unit monitoring — RNs are not required to interpret their own telemetry strips
• Clinical Associates (CAs) support the nursing team

Charge Nurse Opportunity

Travel RNs may be considered for charge assignments. Charge nurses may carry a patient load during the unit's initial opening phase.

Float Requirements

• First to float to other floor or step-down units as needed

Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS (AHA) required
• Proficiency with an electronic health record system required
• Ability to manage both step-down (higher acuity) and med-surg patient loads
