PCU / Stepdown

PCU / Step-Down RN — Night Shift | Redding, CA | 13-Week Contract

This progressive care unit serves patients transitioning from the ICU who require close monitoring beyond standard telemetry-level care. The unit manages a high-acuity, fast-paced patient population including TBI/trauma, post-major surgery (including carotid endarterectomy), and sepsis cases.

Shift & Schedule

• 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 12-hour nights
• 3 shifts per week, every other weekend
• Weekend shifts: Friday/Saturday nights
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Self-scheduling; schedules posted 2–3 weeks out, working toward 9-week advance scheduling
• Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff (holiday RTO considered but not guaranteed)

Clinical Scope

• Arterial and CVP pressure line management
• Titration of vasoactive and sedative drips (Precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, norepinephrine)
• Care for tracheostomy and stable ventilated patients
• Strong emphasis on patient experience, HCAHPS, and core measures

Requirements

• 2–3 years of ICU step-down or PCU experience (first-time travelers considered)
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• COVID vaccine required
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and invested in unit culture

Logistics

• Scrubs: Navy blue
• Float: First to float to Telemetry or Med-Surg
• Orientation: 1 shift on unit
• Guaranteed hours: 36/week
• Cancellation policy: Up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
