Progressive Care / PCU — Stepdown RN

Redding, CA | 13-Week Contract | Days

This PCU serves as a stepdown unit bridging ICU-level and telemetry care, managing patients who require closer monitoring and higher-acuity interventions. The unit sees a dynamic patient mix including TBI and trauma patients, post-major surgery cases, carotid endarterectomy (CEA) recoveries, and sepsis.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM start, 3 shifts/week
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Self-scheduling with schedules posted 2–3 weeks out, extending to 9 weeks in advance
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week cycle (Saturday/Sunday for days)
• Holiday rotation with perm staff — RTO requests considered but not guaranteed

Clinical Scope

• Titration of vasoactive and sedation drips: Precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, levophed
• Management of arterial lines and CVP pressure lines
• Care of stable vented and trach patients
• Emphasis on HCAHPS and core measures

Requirements

• 2–3 years of ICU stepdown or PCU experience required; first-time travelers considered
• Active RN license (CA or compact)
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• COVID vaccination required
• BSN not required

Additional Details

• Float requirement: first to float to Telemetry or Med/Surg
• No call or standby requirement
• Scrubs: navy blue
• Unit orientation: 1 shift
• Cancellation policy: up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
