Position Overview
The facility seeks an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week contract in Salem, Virginia. You'll work in a busy L&D unit delivering comprehensive care across the full spectrum of obstetrical patients and procedures.
Shift & Schedule
- Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (12-hour shifts)
- Frequency: 3 shifts per week
- Weekends: 4 per 4-week cycle
- Huddle: 6:45 AM
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Clinical Scope
This unit handles vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, external cephalic version (ECV), and epidural-assisted labor management. You'll provide antepartum assessment, labor support, and postoperative recovery care for patients under spinal anesthesia. Patient acuity ranges from straightforward labor to high-risk obstetrical cases.
Required Experience & Certifications
- Current RN licensure
- BLS, ACLS, NRP
- Proven L&D experience including:
- Strip interpretation and OB medication knowledge
- IV insertion, lab draws, blood and nitrous administration
- Vaginal exam technique and delivery table setup
- Circulator experience in cesarean sections
- Epidural placement assistance
- BAKRI and JADA balloon familiarity
- Knowledge of common obstetrical complications and treatments
- Strong teamwork and AIDET-based patient communication
