Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN

Salem, VA | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | 13-Week Contract

This night-shift PCU position supports a fast-paced progressive care unit focused on cardiac and post-surgical patients. The unit manages moderate-to-high acuity cases with a steady turnover of complex patients requiring close monitoring and skilled intervention.

Patient Population & Procedures

• Cardiac telemetry monitoring
• Post-cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology study patients
• Device placements and groin management
• Post-operative patients including open-heart, thoracic, general surgery, and orthopedic cases requiring cardiac monitoring
• Chest tube management
• Critical drips (nitroglycerin, Cardizem, Amiodarone)
• Epidurals and PCA management

Required Skills & Certifications

• Prior PCU experience required
• Strong working knowledge of cardiac rhythms
• Proficiency in chest tube and epidural management
• BLS and ACLS required

Schedule & Logistics

• Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend commitment (approximately 4 weekend shifts per contract)
• Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
• Float areas: ICU (PCU-level patients), PCU, and Med/Surg (up to 5 patients)
• Scrubs: Navy or white — mix and match permitted
