Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) RN — Travel Contract | Des Moines, IA

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Friday, Saturday, Sunday | 3x12-hour shifts (36 hrs/week)
• Start Date: October 26, 2026 (sooner starts prioritized)
• Holiday rotation required; every 4th weekend

Unit Overview

This all-private-room PICU provides critical care to infants, children, and adolescents across a wide acuity spectrum — from complex respiratory failure to post-surgical and multi-system illness. The unit is staffed by pediatric critical care physicians and supports a pediatric transport program that extends intensive care expertise regionwide.

Float Requirements

Candidates must be willing to float to:

• NICU — primarily feeder/grower patients; may include infants on oxygen or antibiotics (highest-acuity NICU patients will not be assigned)
• General Pediatrics and ED (patient holds, as helping hands)

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months of current PICU/Pediatric Intensive Care RN experience
• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
• BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Preferred Experience

• Ventilator and high-flow oxygen management
• IV infusion pump and feeding pump operation

Required Documentation

• Resume reflecting required PICU experience
• PICU-specific skills checklist
• Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, or nurse manager within the past 24 months
• Driver's license
