Med Surg Tele

Travel RN – Med/Surg Telemetry | Ortho/Spine/Neuro | Kingsport, TN

Contract: 13 weeks | Shift: Nights, 3×12-hour (18:30–07:00) | Start: November 15, 2026

This night-shift travel RN role is based on an adult Ortho/Spine/Med/Surg unit managing post-operative orthopedic, neurosurgical, and trauma patients. Expect a clinically active environment with diverse acuity including total joint replacements, post-op neurosurgery, renal failure, and patients requiring telemetry monitoring.

Schedule & Expectations

• 36/36 schedule; every other weekend required
• Float within the unit required; no call required
• The hospital may cancel one shift biweekly without penalty due to census fluctuations
• Participation in nursing student clinical education is expected alongside patient care duties

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of RN experience; first-time travelers welcome
• Med/Surg and MS/Tele experience required
• AHA BLS required; ACLS and NIHSS required (AHA-issued only)
• Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility

Clinical Skills Needed

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Central line and PICC line management, port access
• Blood product administration, heparin and insulin management
• Chest tube care, surgical drains, wound care/wound vac
• BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, PCA management
• Pre/post hemodialysis and neurosurgery care

Compliance Notes

• Relias basic EKG test must be completed within 72 hours of offer acceptance (two attempts allowed)
• Drug screen required 12–14 days prior to start
• Orientation begins Sundays; includes online modules (~4–5 hours, non-billable)
• Flu vaccine required; COVID-19 vaccine not required
