Cardiovascular Operating Room Nurse

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) nurse for a 26-week contract in Des Moines, Iowa. You'll work in a busy surgical environment managing diverse cardiac and general surgical cases with a strong focus on cardiovascular procedures.

Shift & Schedule

• 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday (4x10s with rotating day off)
• Up to 2 overnight calls per week
• 1 weekend call per month (Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 6:30 AM)
• Holiday rotation required
• 40 hours per week base

Clinical Environment

Orientation

• 2–3 weeks: general OR circulation and department familiarity
• 2 weeks: vascular-specific training
• Progressive transition to cardiac cases with shadow call and scrubbing experience
• First 6 weeks: general department call before cardiac call eligibility

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months current/recent OR experience
• Cardiovascular OR/CVOR experience (80% cardiac, 20% general)
• Proficiency in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery
• General surgery circulating experience
• Level I or II trauma experience preferred
• Completed travel assignment within 15 months
• Open-heart scrubbing experience required
• Active Iowa license or compact/multistate
• BLS (AHA) certification
