Stepdown / PCU RN — Night Shift | Council Bluffs, IA

13-Week Contract | 36 Guaranteed Hours/Week

This fast-paced Stepdown unit manages a high volume of admits and discharges, caring for patients with heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke. Nurses who thrive here bring a positive attitude, strong teamwork skills, and a genuine passion for patient care.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Cyclic scheduling; every other weekend required
• One major and one minor holiday commitment per contract

Clinical Responsibilities

• Titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
• Read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Manage patients on CPAP as needed
• Float to ICU if appropriate experience is present

Unit Structure

• Charge nurse on every shift (carries full patient assignment)
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available on unit
• Telemetry monitoring with RN responsibility for strip interpretation

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Orientation

• One 12-hour shift of unit-specific orientation
• Open-book skills exam during orientation week; minimum passing score of 90% required

Key Requirements

• Valid driver's license required at submittal (used to verify 50-mile radius compliance)
• Candidates must not hold concurrent or recent employment (within the past year) at any affiliated CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
• All time-off requests must be submitted upfront; no additional RTO will be approved post-submission
