Medical-Surgical Nurse – 13-Week Contract

Location: Birmingham, AL

Unit: Medical-Surgical

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (night shift)

Hours: 36 hours per week

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: November 9, 2026

About the Role

The facility's medical-surgical unit provides comprehensive care to adult patients with a diverse range of medical and surgical diagnoses and acuity levels. You'll manage pre- and post-operative patients, coordinate care for chronic and acute conditions (including cardiac, respiratory, and diabetes), and work closely with physicians and the interdisciplinary team on discharge planning and patient education.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
• Provide wound care and pain management for post-operative patients
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and discharge instructions
• Document assessments and interventions in the EMR
• Follow infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift

Requirements

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• 2+ years recent Med-Surg experience required
• Travel nursing experience required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN certification preferred

This is a night-shift position ideal for experienced medical-surgical nurses seeking a structured 13-week contract.
