Cardiovascular PreOp Nurse
Position Overview
Shift & Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM–1:30 PM
- On-call: 1–2 evenings per week
- 26-week contract
Clinical Scope
This role involves direct patient care and procedural support, including:
- Large-bore IV placement
- Skin assessment and preparation (including hair removal)
- Medication administration
- Assist with arterial line, central line, and epidural placement
- Patient transport to the OR
- Induction/intubation assistance, positioning, and final skin prep
Requirements
- Certifications: BLS required
- Experience: Critical care background is essential; preoperative experience is a plus
- Skills:
- Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment
- BCMA proficiency
- Excellent documentation
- Independent work capability in high-acuity settings
- Excellent interdepartmental communication
Unit Details
You'll work within a supportive cardiovascular surgery program alongside registered nurses, cardiac nurse coordinators, secretaries, and management. The team emphasizes collaboration, strong communication, and evidence-based practice.
