Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry

Location: Paducah, KY

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Schedule: 36 hours per week | 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

About the Role

You'll provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients across medical, surgical, and cardiac diagnoses on a busy med-surg/telemetry unit. This role emphasizes evidence-based practice, patient-centered care, and clinical autonomy within your scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform continuous cardiac monitoring and vital sign assessment, responding promptly to rhythm changes and clinical deterioration
• Administer medications and treatments, including cardiac drips, per physician orders
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound management and pain control
• Coordinate care for patients with complex, chronic, and acute conditions (cardiac, respiratory, diabetes, and others)
• Conduct thorough patient and family education on diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
• Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning and discharge coordination
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Typically manage 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity and unit census)

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license (state or compact)
• ADN or ASN; BSN preferred
• BLS and ACLS certification
• 1+ year of medical-surgical or telemetry nursing experience
• Demonstrated telemetry/EKG interpretation competency
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and collaborative skills

Preferred

• Previous med-surg or telemetry experience
• BSN degree
